We stayed in the Gasthoft Stift, which was a gentle stroll from the lake and had its own small beer garden serving local food, with fish and salad options as well as the usual meat.

Don't forget your vignette!
When driving through several European countries -- including Austria and Switzerland -- you have to buy and display a road tax sticker. They're available at petrol stations (and other shops) around the borders, and tend to be under €20.
SPA TO MONZA II
En route to Monza the previous year, we'd stopped for a break on the shoes of Lake Konstanz and regretted our decision not overnight there.
In 2017 we remedied our mistake, and spent the night in the charming lakeside town of Lindau, pressing on to Italy with another long drive the following day.
