While we don’t spend as much time in Asia as we used to, thanks to the loss of the Indian, South Korean, and Malaysian Grands Prix, the Asian leg of the season remains the best opportunity to squeeze in side trips around the continent.

With colleagues I’ve taken advantage of the breaks between races to travel around Vietnam by motorbike, to explore Myanmar and Cambodia, and to laze around on beaches in Bali and Thailand. As a rule of thumb, Asia is easy to navigate, and (with a few notable exceptions…) hotels tend to be good value, meaning you can have a 4* or 5* holiday on a 2* or 3* budget.
